Information for Travelers


Passport and Visa: Visiting the US from a foreign country requires a valid passport. Citizens of some countries also may be required to obtain a visa. Please contact your nearest USA Embassy or Consulate for visa requirements. The website may be a useful starting point. If you need a letter from the conference for your visa application, please contact the Q-Dot 2012 Conference Organizer at for assistance.

Currency Exchange: Currency other than US dollars is rarely if ever accepted. Participants are encouraged to arrive with some US currency. Banks within walking distance of the conference center and most hotels will provide currency exchange upon presentation of your passport. Banks are open only Monday through Friday, typically from 9:00 to 15:00.  Los Alamos National Bank is located next to the Convention Center:

Traveler’s Checks and Credit Cards. Hotels, restaurants and shops in Santa Fe accept US dollar-denominated traveler’s checks and major credit cards, eg., Visa and MasterCard. Diners Club, American Express and other types of credit cards are generally but not universally accepted.

Insurance. The organizers of Q-Dot 2012 cannot accept responsibility for accidents or illness that might occur. Conference attends may want to consider purchasing travel insurance before leaving their home country.
