Haryadi Gunawi is Neubauer Family Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago. His research areas are: Cloud Computing, Operating Systems, File/Storage Systems, and Distributed Systems. His research interests: Data is growing tremendously, data is always valuable, and thus storage system performance and robustness are becoming more important. My research helps to make sure that today's storage systems are fast and reliable. In particular, my current research involves three directions: (1) building more reliable cloud storage that can deal with performance anomalies and also frequent, multiple, and diverse hardware failures, (2) redesigning OS-level file systems that can support better today's cloud-storage applications, and (3) investigating the impact of new storage technology on current storage systems.
