Apply Now for 2020 Summer Physics Camp for Young Women

Applications are being accepted now for the 2020 Summer Physics Camp for Young Women in Northern New Mexico. This camp runs from June 8-19, 2020 at the Pojoaque Valley High School in Pojoaque, NM and is available to young women who have completed Algebra I or a higher level math course.

This two week long camp offers a unique opportunity to explore what careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) are all about. The camp will focus on boosting understanding of how STEM is allowing us to accomplish what was unimaginable just a few years ago: exploring Mars, understanding the Big Bang, decifering how DNA folds, understanding fire, predicting the flu and understanding the impacts of meteorites.

The camp will teach the students practical skills such as writing a resume, interviewing for a job and building your own computer, as well as the basics of computer programming. The camp will also introduce the students to internships at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and local NM colleges.

Daily activities will include demonstrations, hands-on experiments, and presentations and discussions from female scientists and engineers from LANL. One full day will be dedicated to visiting research facilities in Los Alamos.

This camp is FREE to students and lunch will be provided. Participants who complete the program will also receive a stipend, and transportation will be arranged for any student who needs it.

Applications are due April 1, 2020.
