New Mexico is in a unique position for advancement in basic science, clinical, and epidemiological research of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, due to the presence of two national laboratories, as well as many institutions of higher learning. As part of the efforts to address the need for research spanning all aspects of Alzheimer’s disease, and addressing the goals in the NM State Plan for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias, the New Mexico Alzheimer’s Workshop 2019 will be held on May 22, 2019 at the Inn & Spa at Loretto in Santa Fe.

This workshop, sponsored by the New Mexico Consortium, will provide an ideal forum to advance collaboration among New Mexico researchers working in the area of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. We expect the researchers to share results from their past and current studies and discuss future research directions. The workshop is open to researchers, postdoctoral fellows and students. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required, and is limited to 75 participants.

The goal of the workshop is to discuss the state of the Alzheimer’s research, gaps in the basic understanding of the disease, and progress towards development of effective treatments. Importantly, this workshop will facilitate identifying future research directions, and developing partnerships and collaborations among New Mexico research colleagues, with the overarching goal of seeking research funding. In order to promote collaborative research across the state, this workshop will bring together stakeholders from government, academia, industry, non-profit organizations, patient organizations and regulatory agencies to address challenges specific to New Mexico biomedical researchers working in the area of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, and to connect researchers to clinical trials and regulatory issues.
