Mental Health Care

Mental health care is covered in “parity” to  your regular office visits and hospital benefits. This is a Federal and State requirement. So for example, if an employee is on the PPO Evolution 2000 benefit plan, the Outpatient services, Inpatient-Hospital and Residential Treatment Centers would be covered the same as a regular office visit or hospital service covered at the $2,000 deductible plus 20% coinsurance until they reach the $4,000 Out-of-Pocket Max. Then the plan pays the balance of medical expenses the rest of the year.

The co-pay for Mental and Chemical Dependency outpatient visits (unlimited visits) is $20 on the PPO, $35 on the EPO and 20% on the HDHP. See the Summary of Benefits for each plan (under Medical Coverage section). It specifically references Mental Health Benefits and how they are paid. All plans cover Mental Health the same as any other health issue.

In addition, all Unum enrollees (either Life or Disability) have a no-cost Employee Assistance Program (see Employee Assistance Program section). Each enrollee has unlimited online, confidential support as well as three free in-person visits with a Professional Counselor. After 3 visits, the employee will be referred to a local professional where the medical insurance will pick up the cost.

Employees can also use FSA or HSA funds for out-of-pocket Mental Health Care expenses (tax-free).
