NMC Booth a Hit at the Los Alamos 2022 Science Fest!
The New Mexico Consortium (NMC) booth was a popular stop at this year’s Los Alamos ScienceFest, drawing interest from families, children, and curious adults throughout the day. NMC staff members Steve Buelow and Carrie Talus spent the day speaking with attendees, sharing information about the NMC, presenting interesting science facts, and offering hands-on demonstrations.
Visitors to the NMC booth had the opportunity to see a Van de Graaff generator in action and learn about the science behind static electricity. The booth also featured a sunspot viewer, giving attendees a chance to safely observe the Sun and learn more about solar activity. These interactive demonstrations helped spark curiosity and encouraged visitors of all ages to ask questions and engage with science in a fun and memorable way.
Los Alamos ScienceFest’s Discovery Day was held Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Ashley Pond in downtown Los Alamos. Discovery Day is one of the highlights of ScienceFest, bringing together thousands of attendees and hundreds of volunteer scientists, engineers, technicians, artists, and community members for a full day of hands-on learning and exploration.
Hands-on science is at the heart of Discovery Day. The event gives participants the chance to “unleash your genius” through interactive exhibits, demonstrations, and activities designed to make science exciting and accessible. Families enjoyed a kids’ activity area, live music, food, beverages, performances, and a wide range of science-based displays and presentations.
This year’s ScienceFest was a great success, and the NMC was pleased to be part of such an engaging community event. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth, asked questions, and joined in the fun.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at next year’s ScienceFest!
