NMC Named Finalist for Albuquerque Business First’s 2020 Deals of the Year Award

The New Mexico Consortium (NMC) has been selected as a finalist for Albuquerque Business Firsts prestigious 2020 Deals of the Year Awards in the Real Estate category. The recognition highlights the sale of the NMC Biolab to Pebble Labs Inc., a transaction that reflects the continued growth of New Mexico’s biotechnology sector and its potential to drive economic development throughout the state.

Now in its fifth year, the Albuquerque Business First Deals of the Year Awards program was established to recognize business transactions that have had a significant and positive impact on New Mexico’s economy. The awards celebrate deals that demonstrate innovation, encourage investment, create jobs, and contribute to long-term economic growth across a variety of industries.

Each year, a panel reviews business transactions from across the state and selects finalists based on both the scale of the deal and its broader impact on New Mexico. In addition to financial value, judges consider factors such as job creation, industry advancement, community benefit, and the potential for future economic development.

The sale of the NMC Biolab to Pebble Labs represents an important milestone for both organizations. Pebble Labs, an agricultural biotechnology company focused on developing innovative biological solutions for agriculture and environmental challenges, has continued to expand its research and development efforts in New Mexico. The acquisition of the biolab provides the company with additional resources to support its scientific programs while strengthening the state’s growing biotechnology ecosystem.

The recognition also reflects the New Mexico Consortium’s ongoing commitment to fostering scientific innovation, supporting research commercialization, and helping create opportunities for technology-based economic growth. Through partnerships with research institutions, national laboratories, universities, and private industry, NMC plays an important role in advancing science and technology throughout the region.

The 2020 Deals of the Year Awards considered transactions that were completed between August 1, 2019, and August 1, 2020. Finalists from a variety of sectors—including real estate, technology, healthcare, finance, and economic development—were selected for their contributions to advancing New Mexico’s business landscape.

A special publication featuring all finalists will be released by Albuquerque Business First in December, highlighting the deals and organizations that have helped shape the state’s economy over the past year. Winners in each category will be announced online and recognized during the awards event.

The New Mexico Consortium is honored to be recognized among the finalists and congratulates all of the organizations whose work is helping strengthen New Mexico’s economy and create new opportunities for businesses, researchers, and communities throughout the state.
