NMC Supports ISOTT 2024 Conference
The New Mexico Consortium (NMC) has provided $3,000 in Collaboration Funding for the International Society on Oxygen Transport to Tissue (ISOTT) conference held June 8-14, 2024 on the New Mexico Tech campus.
This ISOTT meeting brought together 70 scientists, physicians, and engineers from around the world to address many aspects of oxygen-related biology and medicine—such as transport, physiology, metabolism, modeling, and clinical measurement. World leaders and developing researchers came together to engage in stimulating scientific discussion and career networking. At this meeting, 10 countries and 16 US states were represented among the participants.
This year’s conference kicked off with a student-centered Young Researchers Symposium, which attracted a diverse group of participants from around the world, including Europe, Asia, and the USA, as well as students from New Mexico. The symposium showcased the innovative research being conducted by students and trainees, setting the stage for an engaging and enlightening conference.
The symposium took place on Sunday, June 9, 2024, starting at 9 a.m. and culminated with a keynote lecture by the winner of the 2023 Melvin H. Knisely Award (ISOTT’s highest award for a junior investigator) in the late afternoon. During the symposium, students and other research trainees delivered concise presentations to share their initial findings and receive feedback and advice. The Young Researchers Symposium also featured a pizza lunch and an afternoon social gathering in the New Mexico Tech game room.
For this symposium, NMC support enabled the participation of 11 students (10 of which were from New Mexico Tech), 3 New Mexico Tech faculty members and 1 LANL scientist.
