NMC Funds Oppenheimer Scholarship Awarded to High School Senior Deshawn Sanchez
The New Mexico Consortium (NMC) is a proud supporter of the J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee (JROMC) scholarships. The JROMC is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Robert Oppenheimer, the first director of Los Alamos National Laboratory and one of the most influential scientists of the 20th Century. This Oppenheimer scholarship is awarded to high school seniors at Los Alamos, Pojoaque Valley, Santa Fe and Capital High Schools based on merit and to recognize a variety of achievements.
Each year, New Mexico Consortium funds one J. Robert Oppenheimer Scholarship to be awarded to a student from a regional high school who shows exceptional promise of future contributions to society and plans to attend a New Mexico school of higher education. The amount of the scholarship is $3000. The NMC first awarded the J. Robert Oppenheimer Scholarship to a Los Alamos graduating senior in 1984, and since then more than $668,000 has been awarded in scholarships.
