Parallel Computing Summer Research Internship Presentation Day

The Parallel Computing Summer Research Internship is having their Summer Internship Presentation Day on August 1, starting 03:15 pm at the Oppenheimer Study Center at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The Parallel Computing Summer Research Internship had a great group of a total of 12 students this year. This program is led by four LANL staff co-leads and 14 LANL staff mentors. The LANL staff span several divisions and groups.

Two New Mexico based interns, Harshita Sahni, a computer science student at the University of New Mexico, and Nicholas Grijalva, a computer science student at New Mexico State University, were given New Mexico Consortium awards to participate in this internship.

For the Internship Presentation Day, Harshita Sahni, will give a presentation on: Discerning earthquakes from explosions using High Performance Computing (HPC) and Machine Learning (ML). She will do this with her fellow intern Ravi Mangar of the University of Colorado Boulder. Their mentors are Carene Larmat and Ting Chen, EES-17.

Nicholas Grijalva will give a presentation on:Simulating Vegetation Impacts of Subsurface Hydrology. His mentors include Yu Zhang, EES-14 and Joel Rowland of EES-14.

Students will also give a poster presentation at the Student Symposium, Aug 2-3 on the UNM-LA Campus.

Harshita plans to continue working at LANL in the role of a LANL student job after the internship is completed.
