Supporting the Community
The New Mexico Consoritum supports our community through science outreach, community events, supporting educational programs, and scholarships. We strive to make our community a better place. Here are some of the events and programs the NMC organizes and/or supports:

Your State Of Science (YSoS) Program
The NMC hosts the year-round Your State of Science Program bringing science experts in a variety of interesting topics to Los Alamos. YSoS events include lectures, interactive exhibits, and hands on activities. If you want to get more information on upcoming events see: NMC’s YSoS Program

Cosmic Frontiers
Cosmic Frontiers is a fun and educational event for everyone! Each year the NMC organizes and hosts Cosmic Frontiers where we bring together eminent science experts on a chosen topic. This multi-day event includes interactive lectures, community functions, a panel discussion, seminars, a reception dinner, book signings, and more! Students from around the state are invited to attend. Information on the May 2025 Cosmic Frontiers coming soon at: https://cosmicfrontiers.org/

Oppenheimer Committee Scholarships
The NMC works with the J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee and sponsors a scholarship to a promising student each year. The JROMC is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Robert Oppenheimer, the first director of Los Alamos National Laboratory and one of the most influential scientists of the 20th Century. This scholarship is awarded to high school seniors at Los Alamos, Pojoaque Valley, Santa Fe and Capital High Schools based on merit and to recognize a variety of achievements.

Summer Physics Camp for Young Women
In the past, the NMC supported the Summer Physics Camp for Young Women! This minority-serving camp offers a unique opportunity for students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with STEM professionals, including women scientists and researchers from Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories. Supercomputing Challenge
The New Mexico Consortium is one of the major contributors each year to the Supercomputing Challenge. The Supercomputing Challenge is an exciting academic year-long program open to middle and high school students where they work in a team with support from teachers and experts. Students work on real-world problems using computational science techniques. This nationally recognized program is in its 35th year and promotes critical thinking and project-based learning! Math and Science Academy
The NMC supports the Math and Science Academy (MSA). This annual program provides teachers in Northern New Mexico professional development in math and science. MSA supports both teachers and school leaders with job-embedded professional learning with a focus on systems change. Science Fest
The New Mexico Consortium participates annually in the Los Alamos ScienceFest. This week long event celebrates the history and science of Los Alamos through engaging activities and events for the community. ScienceFest connects scientists with people of all ages, raises awareness of STEM education, and celebrates the scientific heritage of Los Alamos.
